4 Step Gradient in Illustrator

Here is a simple way to create great gradients in Adobe Illustrator. It is a four step gradient consisting of a highlight, light, shadow and half light. |

The sphere has a radial gradient and the cylinder uses a linear gradient. I added an extra light step on the cylinder, so it would look a little darker on the edge. Check out my gradient tutorial to see gradients in action. |

How do you get the gradient off center as shown in the sphere? All that I can produce is a centered gradient fill.
To change the start point and direction of the gradient, use the Gradient Tool. It’s on the toolbar and it looks like a gradated rectangle. To use the Gradient Tool, select the object, then select the Gradient Tool from the toolbar. Next, click and drag the mouse in the direction you want the gradient to go. The gradient should change.
